Can an app help you to take your medications as your doctor precribed?

Being forgetful is the number one reason people don't take their medication, but other reasons have almost as much impact. What strategies can an app use to increase medication adherence?

Webinar: Not just old and forgetful
Rønnaug Larsen researches mediciation adherence.

The top three reasons for medication non-adherence are: 1) forgetting to take the medication, 2) feeling better, and 3) afraid of having side effects.

Low adherence costs us dearly in both lost health and wasted money. But what influences our choices when it comes to medication adherence? Is it skepticism and fear, or just forgetfulness?

Rønnaug Eline Larsen recently defended her PhD in health sciences at Oslo Metropolitan University. She investigated reasons why people don't take their medication as recommended by their doctor. Based on the most common reasons, she has developed an app that helps people taking medication for mental disorders to increase their compliance.

Presentation by Rønnaug Eline Larsen, municipal pharmacist in Nesbyen municipality.
