Why does it take so long to implement e-health?

The introduction of digital health systems is often slow. What lessons can we learn from the introduction of the patient's medication list in Bergen?

Webinar: A complex reality
Erik M. Hansen has a lot of experience in e-health and shares his observations on implementation processes.
Start small, make it good. Then it can be scaled up. But it will also take time because it must first be good before it can be scaled up.

Things take time, also the implementation of e-health. How difficult can it really be?

Well, it turns out again and again that it's a long journey from paper via digitalisation to digital transformation. The introduction of e-health is complex and takes place in a fragmented landscape. It's difficult to resolve all the details in a good way, and it's demanding to get all the necessary and relevant people involved. Not to mention change management, documentation requirements, clarifications in relation to laws and regulations, realisation of benefits, etc.

During this webinar we took a look at some reasons why implementation processes for large and complex e-health solutions take so long. The implementation of the patient's medication list in Helse Vest is used as an example.

Presentation by Erik M. Hansen, director of e-health, Helse Vest RHF.
