Column: The unseen work that makes patient care safer
En riktig legemiddelliste kan være avgjørende for trygg behandling. Likevel får arbeidet med å finne ut hvilke medisiner pasienten faktisk bruker, ofte lav status og lite oppmerksomhet.
In an opinion piece in Dagens Medisin, Stine Agnete Ingebrigtsen, a PhD candidate and advisor at the National Centre for eHealth Research, writes about why the coordination of medication information needs to be taken more seriously. She points out that healthcare professionals often have to retrieve information from multiple digital systems that do not communicate well enough with one another, and that responsibility for sorting out medication lists is easily shifted between professions and levels.
The patient’s medication list can be an important tool, but technology alone does not solve everything. If we are to achieve better and safer medication information, the work must be organised, supported and recognised as a central part of patient care.
