Webinar: What can we learn from staff members’ experiences with electronic medication support?

In this webinar, we share our experiences of working with electronic medication support in Halden Municipality, based on a qualitative study carried out by the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE). The study is based on interviews with home care service staff and highlights experiences of the introduction and use of electronic medication support in municipal health and care services.

Webinar on experiences with electronic medication support

The findings of the study show that medicine dispensers can deliver significant quality improvements for selected user groups, including safer medication management and greater independence for users. At the same time, their use has been more limited than many had expected. Staff experiences point to both internal factors, such as training, organisation and the division of responsibilities, and external factors relating to collaboration with GPs and local authority case management. The experiences also show that the solution is not suitable for all users, and that good results require systematic integration into day-to-day operations.

We conclude with key lessons learnt from the study and reflections on how the experiences from Halden Municipality can contribute to future work on electronic medication support and other welfare technology.
