Webinar: Welfare technology in municipal home care services – on government visions in the face of market forces and municipal realities
Welfare technology is often presented as a solution to future care challenges. But what happens when the technology does not work as intended? In this webinar, we share research-based experiences from municipal home care services and ask necessary, critical questions.
Safety alarms that are triggered accidentally, alerts that interrupt ongoing care tasks, and technical systems that do not communicate with each other. Experience from research on the use of welfare technology in Norwegian municipalities shows that, in practice, the technology often creates stress, extra work and insecurity for both users and employees.
In the webinar, we highlight key challenges related to technical errors, unintended alarms and inadequate information flow. We also take a closer look at the demanding interaction between government guidelines, the technology industry and municipal practices, where municipalities often have more experience-based knowledge than suppliers.
The webinar invites reflection on technological optimism, expectations and consequences, and asks whether welfare technology always contributes to better and more sustainable services.
