Description

Lifestyle-related diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, overweight, and mental health problems are among the main public health challenges in Norway.

They reduce the quality of life and place significant pressure on the healthcare system.

Research shows that many of these conditions can be prevented through healthier lifestyles. The challenge is to support people in ways that fit their individual needs and last over time.

The Centre for Personalized Digital Health Promotion will develop, test, and implement digital solutions that make prevention and health promotion more precise, accessible, and sustainable.

The Centre brings together researchers, industry, public authorities, and patient organizations in a long-term public–private partnership.

Goals

The aim is to strengthen self-care, increase healthy life years, and ease the burden on health and care services.

Effective health promotion needs to be personal. Using artificial intelligence, the Centre will analyze complex data from public health services, sensors, health apps, and user-reported information to create individual lifestyle risk profiles. These profiles will help understand what affects individuals' health and enable tailored advice and digital health support adapted to their needs, preferences, and life situations.

In the long term, the goal is to give people in Norway easy access to personalized digital health promotion through the national health portal Helsenorge, contributing to a more preventive healthcare system, reduced health inequalities, and lasting value for citizens, the public sector, and industry.

Method

The solutions will be developed together with users, with strong emphasis on usability, accessibility, and digital inclusion. Privacy, data security, and responsible technology use are key priorities for the project. Large-scale digital studies will provide evidence on health effects and socio-economic benefits, supporting public decision-making and further development of the solutions.
