Implementing commercial AI for Radiology in a Norwegian health trust – Experiences from using the NASSS framework for Formative Process Evaluation

Sammendrag av rapporten

The implementation of BoneView demonstrates that successful introduction of AI in healthcare not only depends on the solution itself, but also the socio technical context where it is implemented, including the organization and the people who will use it. Formative process evalation research is used to outline values created by the AI solution, including changes in workflow, task distribution, and increased digital maturity. Overall, the study demonstrates that AI implementation can contribute to improved patient flow, better clinical processes, and enhanced competence. Several critical success factors for sustainable AI implementation have been identified: Digital maturity must be built gradually; it is important to establish trust in the solution through local validation. It is also essential to involve users in all parts of the implementation process. Also, AI implementation must be closely linked to organizational change initiatives, and benefits must be assessed at an overarching level for both the organization and the users. The solution must be monitored over time to capture all potential effects and values.
