Are we allowed to do anything?

The regulations for processing health data may seem rigid. But how can a municipality or hospital move forward with digitalisation in health?

Are we allowed to do anything?
Experiences and tips about managing health data.

Yes! We are allowed to do quite a bit

Jan Gunnar Broch, section head at the Norwegian Directorate for E-health, and Lars Martinsen, research fellow at Diakonhjemmet Hospital, gave us specific tips on how we can work with health data without breaking the law. Yes, we are allowed to use new technologies, but we have to do it in the right way.

Don't try to go under the radar. It's rarely a good idea.

Broch referred to several guides and fact sheets that are particularly relevant for those working with digital home monitoring. Martinsen followed up with experiences from projects in the municipality.

When your project starts to look at information security and privacy, it's time to call a friend. In the municipality, it is relevant to consult with the data protection officer. People who work with IT can be relevant advisors. You can also lean on other environments, such as a hospital, that have done similar work.
