Measures to close the pharmaceutical loop in Danish hospitals

Odense University Hospital is in the process of rolling out a closed pharmaceutical loop. The robot that delivers multi-doses plays a central role.

Our colleagues in Denmark shared their experiences at a webinar on 6 October.

Webinar: Multidose robot and decentralised pharmacy
Cathrine Nørgaard Peulicke and Michelle Lyndgaard Nielsen are working on closed pharmaceutical loops and new workflows for medicines.
Vi have streamlined the medicine room. This increases patient safety and the quality of hospital wards.

The mediciation loop is hereby closed!

Prescribing, ordering, dispensing and administering medicines - everything is documented and quality assured electronically. This is done with the help of electronic patient records and robots that pack multidose tablets. Other medicines are packed by pharmacists in the decentralised pharmacy unit, called Pharmaservice. When the medicine is administered, healthcare professionals scan wristbands and medicines to ensure the right medicine and patient.

During the webinar Odense University Hospital shared their experiences so far and plans for the future.

Presentation by Cathrine Nørgaard Peulicke, clinical pharmacist, and Michelle Lyndgaard Nielsen, project manager, at Odense University Hospital.
