Introduction and use of e-prescription and summary care record: National solutions in local practices in primary and specialist health services

Description

By mapping patterns and possible variations in introducing and using e-prescription and summary care records, the study will elucidate relationships between national, standardized solutions and local adaptations. Patterns and variations in the various regulations and purposes of the health authorities, the actual introductory processes and the physician's experience and use of the two solutions will provide knowledge about the introduction and use of national e-health services that can be used as a best practice model for the purposeful implementation of national solutions in the future.

The project will produce knowledge about how the national e-health solutions e-prescription and summary care journal are thought to be introduced and used by the health authorities, how they have been introduced in the primary and specialist health services and how doctors experience and use the solutions in different local practices. The results can be used to create best practices for introducing national e-health solutions.

Goals

  • Map patterns and variations in health services work with the introduction of summary care records and e-prescriptions in specialist and primary health services.
  • Map local patterns and variations in the work of introducing summary care record and e-prescription in the specialist health service.
  • Map patterns and variations in doctors' experience and use of summary care record and e-prescription in primary and specialist health services.
  • Compile knowledge about the purpose, introduction and use of the two solutions, and work out a research-based recommendation for introducing new national e-health solutions.

Method

Scientifically sustainable method for qualitative research, with sufficient number of interview objects to establish a research-based recommendation for the introduction of national e-health solutions. The overall focus of all interviews is the relationship between national solutions and local practices both in the regional health authorities, hospitals and at GPs. All informants are chosen for the purpose of the researchers to be able to describe and analyze: A) Purpose of the solutions, B) Introduction, C) Experience and use of e-prescription and summary care records in primary and specialist health services.
