Proactive health and welfare technology for Nordic users and societies (PROTECT)
Description
Healthcare and social care are facing a shift in which digitalization, such as health and welfare technologies (HWT) use will play an increasingly important role in specific care solutions but also in obtaining more effective patient-/client-focused processes and facilitating independent life.
For this, an understanding of clients and informal caregivers’ needs; implementation such as the necessary change management, and systemic socio-technical understanding are needed. This applies to different contexts, such as healthcare and home care, disability care, social care, andeducational practices.
It is therefore crucial to not only attempt to fill the gap among researchers, but also avail an opportunity for different service actors to co-create new knowledge and take part in its dissemination.
Novelty of the project:
The novelty of the project lies essentially in the explorative multi- and transdisciplinary approach, the focus on proactive HWT, and the combination of the user and societal perspectives within this focus.
By means of this, PROTECT produces novel knowledge that may contribute to increased resilience. The project covers diverse groups of users – end-users (older clients/patients and people with disabilities, and their informal caregivers) and professional users – in a nuanced way.

The project emphasizes the enabling factors of digitalization proactive health and welfare technology with a user and societal perspective.
Method
Scientific contents:
The proposed workshop series aims to synthesize and advance Nordic research-based knowledge of proactive health and welfare technology (HWT)1 with a user and societal perspective at three levels:
- (1) the nature and needs for proactive HWT use in care solutions and processes for end-users(older clients/patients and people with disabilities) and their informal caregivers;
- (2) the implementation (competences, work processes, change management and alike) of proactive HWT use in care solutions andprocesses from the perspective of professional users (professional caregivers), and
- (3) the societal level(including the organizational level of care providers) in the expected future implementation of proactive HWT for an increasingly resilient society.
