How do they work with closed drug loops in a regional cancer treatment system?

Closed loop in cancer treatment
Collaboration is needed to run a clinical IT solution.

Closed drug loops in a regional system for cancer treatment require new ways of collaborating.

Presentation by Dr Karen Henjum, Head of Unit for regional drug management at the Cancer Clinic, OUS, and pharmacist Malin Davidsson, Head of Operations at Sykehusapotekene HF.

Karen Henjum and Malin Davidsson have important roles in the management of a regional system that coordinates the prescription, production and administration of cytostatic drugs (Chemotherapy Management System). They explain how they went from working locally to regionally.

Collaboration is needed to operate a clinical IT solution. What is pharmacy, what is medicine, what is IT and who does what? The lessons learnt are transferable to the operation and management of other clinical ICT systems. The system helps manage the workflow in both the hospital ward and the pharmacy, thereby influencing medicines management.
