Extra work - a prerequisite for healthcare integrations
Poor integration between the technical systems at the hospital creates additional work for staff in the form of data registration and maintenance.
In the EHR system, the amount of medicine is often defined as tablets, while in the electronic charting system it is often defined in weight, such as milligrams. When transferring drug data between systems, it becomes the clinician's ‘job’ to translate the data and confirm that it is correct. Why has this happened? And what do we need to do to achieve better integration between hospital systems?
