Search for adverse reactions in Felleskatalogen

Felleskatalogen will soon be launching a new functionality that will make it easier to find out about side effects associated with polypharmacy. The editor of Felleskatalogen talked about the project and showed the possibilities in the side effect search at the webinar on 4 February.

Search for adverse reactions in Felleskatalogen
Bente By Jansen demonstrates how Felleskatalogen's side effect search works.

When healthcare professionals suspect that a patient has suffered an adverse reaction, they currently have to search for individual drugs to look for relevant side effects. On the initiative of the Health Library, FHI, the Joint Catalogue has developed an ADR search based on 5,000 Norwegian ADR terms with synonyms. The adverse reaction search will reduce the time spent by healthcare professionals on finding out about adverse reactions and provide them with a better overview, so that they, in consultation with the patient, can assess how a possible adverse reaction should be handled. Bente By Jansen, the editor of Felleskatalogen, talked about the development itself, demonstrated its use and shared feedback from healthcare professionals who have contributed to the testing.

Bente By Jansen is a pharmacist and editor at Felleskatalogen AS. She is particularly interested in e-health and how digital solutions can contribute to the safe use of medicines, and she is currently studying computer science at the University of Oslo and USN, alongside her work at Felleskatalogen.
