Vestre Viken improves the patient pathway for approximately 39,000 patients annually with the support of artificial intelligence

Radiographers are now supported by an artificial intelligence application to find skeletal injuries. Patients without broken bones are sent home faster, saving time for other healthcare professionals.

Webinar: Artifical intelligens improves patient pathways
Line Tveiten talks about how artifical intelligence changes the patient work flow.
In total, Vestre Viken has saved patients 55 days of waiting time with the support of artificial intelligence. At the same time, they save 15 doctor consultations every day.

Vestre Viken HF is in the final stages of introducing artificial intelligence (AI) in the interpretation of X-rays at all its local hospitals. Ringerike Hospital and Hallingdal Sjukestugu are the latest to go live on 11 and 12 December 2023. Since the start-up on 29 August 2023, approximately 5,500 patients have been analysed by AI.

The challenges of adopting this solution have mostly been related to workflow changes and getting employees on board with the change. Finding the smallest detail of where AI affects operations can be difficult. For each location where the application is deployed, the implementation team has learnt and been able to achieve a faster start-up the next time, with minor corrections afterwards.

Vestre Viken has now found a template for how this solution can be utilised in the best possible way. They want to share their experience and help other companies that want to use artificial intelligence applications.
