Ed Pertwee

Research Fellow at the Vaccine Confidence Project at LSHTM

Dr Ed Pertwee is a Research Fellow at the Vaccine Confidence Project at LSHTM. He works at the intersection of political sociology, digital sociology and health sociology, combining qualitative research methods with analysis of digital “big data” to investigate how movements promoting reactionary politics and antiscience mobilise both “online” and “offline”.

Dr Pertwee’s current research interests include the relationship between social media use and vaccine attitudes; far-right digital ecosystems and alternative social media platforms; uses and ethics of AI in the vaccine field; and violence against science and technology personnel and infrastructure in the context of COVID-19. His work has been published in Nature, the Journal of Medical Internet Research, and New Media and Society, among other places. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the London School of Economics.
